Good vibes is a slang phrase for the positive feelings given off by a person, place, or situation.

If someone has good vibes, it means they are creating positive emotions or thoughts. When you vibe well with someone it means that you are both creating similar emotions or thoughts and they could be positive or negative

In life, we learn if we disagree, we can compromise or agree to disagree so the situation won’t escalate.

These are ways I find good vibes:

  • Practice gratitude
  • Focus on the positive things in life
  • Remember the effort you put into success and don’t downplay it
  • Celebrate your successes, big or small. Not all negatives are bad, as we all will feel grief and this gives us the ability to show compassion when someone is sad and grieving
  • Also, feeling anger can motivate us to take our anger and find positive ways to change what is festering inside of us, instead of exploding in a rage that could possibly get you arrested.
  • Don’t just react, instead breathe and think about a positive solution.
  • Exercising helps with your memory, improves focus, helps manage stress and prevents depression, plus benefitting your health.
  • Create time for yourself and stay active.
  • Being more confident might help you have healthier relationships.
  • Live in the present and appreciate what you have now, and let go of the past and forgive.

What is confidence?

  • A feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something.
  • A feeling or belief that someone or something is good or has the ability to succeed at something.
  • The feeling of being certain that something will happen or that something is true.

Feeling confident is something that is hard for many people, as fear takes over and gets in the way of achieving success. No matter what strengths you might have when you feel fear it is like a roadblock in believing in yourself and you can end up sabotaging your way to success.

Don’t compare yourself to other people on their journey to success.  This could stop you in your tracks from seeing your self-worth, or why you make excuses about not achieving your goals.  Everyone is different and unique and approaches life in various ways in order to reach their goals and see it as success.

Confidence does not come from perfection, it comes from effort.

How do good vibes help us gain confidence?

Now how do you use good vibes to feel confident?  You can practice positive thoughts daily or write them down daily or you can start small and the more you practice this behavior the more confident you will feel.  Don’t try to rush this. Have patience and persevere through it!

Do you see life with a positive or negative mindset?  I am a personal development blogger who posts positive posts every day, to hopefully show people how to see life positively and not let the negativity drag them down.

Build your confidence with direction and a positive mindset, so you can move forward, not backward, or come to a standstill.  Surround yourself with positive, motivated people.

Changing your mindset is something you can change.   As I learned from growing up very shy with strict parents who expected me to be perfect at whatever I did, I realized you need to change your mindset and persevere to build your confidence.

My childhood story on being shy growing up

I will start out with my childhood story on how I went from being very shy with no confidence to someone who now believes in myself and has the confidence to pursue my dreams.

My dad was in the military and brought me up under strict rules and he and my mom expected perfection from me at an early age.  They did not accept grades less than a B, and that was even frowned upon.  When we went to visit anyone I was to be on my best behavior and not touch any of their knick-knacks and say please and thank you.

I learned over the years it was better to be quiet and speak when spoken to, so I would not get in trouble.  My sisters were 9 and 11 years younger than me, so I was the one growing up under the strict rules.

I was the teacher’s pet as I was always well-behaved and had good grades.

We moved around a lot so I was the new kid who had to make new friends every time we moved.  On top of that, I was also the short one who had to sit in the front. This did not make my shyness any better.  Luckily, I made friends easily.

In middle school, I continued to make new friends and get good grades.  I started to become a little rebellious and now I wanted to socialize.  My dad was stationed overseas on a secret mission, so I started testing my mom to see what I could get away with.

Learning ways how to become confident in high school

Once I was in high school I would get up to give a report in front of the class, and my voice would be quivering and my legs shaking.  I hated this feeling, so I decided to find ways to feel confident in speaking in front of people.  I took a speech class, which was the best thing I could have done.

We would pick subjects we wanted to talk about and also be able to present a demonstration speech.  After I finished that class, I was on my way to building confidence and believing in what I could accomplish.

I graduated and decided to go to parties and socialize, which was hard when I was younger.  Realizing that people will open up if you find subjects they want to talk about and what they are comfortable with, like where are they from, what do they enjoy doing, where do they work,  or about their kids, etc.

Jobs that helped me gain confidence

Before you know it, you can feel comfortable talking to anyone and also bring them out of their shell if they are also shy.  I found that once I started working it was helpful to work at a fast-food restaurant, work a lunch shift in a busy restaurant, and work in a bakery, where you talk to people and give them service.  In time, I was feeling comfortable in those surroundings and enjoyed being around people.

I developed a great work ethic, and at first, was not comfortable doing job interviews, but always was hired for the jobs I applied for, which also built my confidence.

As I got older I became a Mary Kay Director where you give weekly meetings and presented skincare classes.  I loved being able to help women believe in themselves and become successful with Mary Kay Cosmetics!

I took what I learned in Mary Kay over to the real estate business I did for 15 years and then retired and became a personal development blogger.  I learned that my passion was helping people and by sharing my personal experiences I can help someone get through something that was traumatic in their life, and was similar to what I went through.  I can share options and places to call to find help and assistance.

The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you.”

Closing thoughts

Gaining confidence can take time and effort, and don’t feel like you have to rush getting to the point of being confident. You might even want to start with small steps to get there, as your fears might get in the way of you moving forward.

Try following the steps I mentioned, but don’t be afraid of trying something new or what worked for someone you know. Just remember to find what is comfortable for you to do.

Face your fears and life can change for you in a positive way. I felt like I was trapped in a box and couldn’t get out when I first started seeking ways to feel my self-worth and ways to gain confidence.

Sharing my childhood story shows how you can find ways to gain confidence and feel self-worth.  When we are young our parents can try to control what we feel and how we view things.

As we get older and start having our own opinions, we can start butting heads with our parents.  We start feeling independent and want our voices heard.

In my case, I didn’t like how sheltered and restricted I was, so after graduating and moving out, I enjoyed my independence and started voicing my opinion!

I felt like a different person when I gained my confidence and life had so much more meaning to it.

  3. I love this! I also struggled with self-esteem/self-confidence as a child and was able to turn that around in my adult life. Confidence really is SO important and it is totally a skill anyone can learn. Thank you for sharing this! Such a great list. 🙂

  4. Thank you for sharing your journey towards confidence! Adolescence is soooo….hard on self-esteem! When I think about it, when we’re very young, we believe that we can do anything. Then we hit school age, and it falls to pieces. Children can be cruel, overbearing critical teachers….strict parents…emotionally distant parents…the list goes on. Our spirit dims…self confidence plummets. I think we spend the rest of life building ourselves back up. It’s a journey towards Confidence, self love, and high self esteem . Thank you again for sharing this post🙏

  5. Hey mom. Great job once again on your blog. Really enjoyed and took to heart the readings overall. The confidence building, in particular, is what really hit home for me. As you know, I was much more on the shy side growing up. Then once I entered my party phase in life, I feel alcohol, moreso, among varied other substances, helped me break out of my shell much more than I would’ve thought, but typically with many negatives following thereafter. Anyway, once I gave my life to the Lord Jesus, He restored me to new level of confidence I never thought possible. Glory to Him in the highest. I attempt to maintain a grateful/humble confidence in the Lord alone, daily as He always lifts me up when I feel down everytime I call upon Him. You’re testimony was quite encouraging as well. I’m learning more about you, mom, more than I ever have. Thank you for your consideration and efforts unto being a genuine encourager for all whom your blogs reach out to. Really appreciate you mom. Love ya lots and God bless.
